Salary Range: $82,900 – $93,251, plus a $25,000 stipend, up to $12,000 experience stipend, $15,000 sign‑on bonus, and off‑duty housing available.

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy, transporting medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within an assigned operational area while complying with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), General Operations Manual (GOM) guidelines, and Air Methods policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner.
  • Complete pre‑flight checks for every flight, verifying aircraft airworthiness and signing off the Daily Flight Log. Perform a thorough walk‑around before entering the cockpit and upon completion of each flight.
  • Exercise final authority over operating the aircraft and ensuring the safety of passengers, cargo and equipment.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all aircraft and medical systems on backup aircraft in the operational area and ensure the medical flight team is familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Conduct detailed flight planning with little notice and exacting standards.
  • Participate regularly in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees and community outreach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Regular scheduled attendance (7/7 schedule – 12 hour shifts). All employees must follow Air Methods’ employment practices and policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily as described above. Air Methods will provide reasonable accommodations under applicable laws.

Pay Scale:
Based on flight and EMS experience – STEP A: $82,900; STEP B: $86,216; STEP C: $89,665; STEP D: $93,251.

Education & Experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school with two to five years of related experience/training; or an equivalent combination. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Operation and Safety Requirements
  • Maintain a weight not to exceed 250 pounds and be under the age of seventy (70) years.
  • Flown in category within the previous 24 months.
  • Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program: 2000 total flight hours with at least 1500 in category; 1000 hours PIC in category; 500 hours rotor‑wing turbine; 200 hours cross‑country, including at least 50 hours at night; 100 hours unaided night as PIC (minimum 50 unaided; 100 NVG time may substitute).
  • 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category. For a RW candidate with FW rating, 100 hours FW actual or hood instrument time can reduce RW requirement to 25 hours.
  • Instrument rating (for category and class of aircraft); ATP rating in category required. Fixed‑wing multi‑engine rating required for twin‑engine aircraft; commercial single‑engine land rating required for single‑engine aircraft.
  • First or second class FAA Medical certificate required.
