Position: INPATIENT WOUND CARE/OSTOMY REGISTERED NURSE (MSU)

Salary Range: $52.56 per hour - $69.34 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Initiate assessment, planning, and implementation of care for patients with ostomies, draining wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, acute and/or chronic wounds.
  • Provide comprehensive care and teaching to patients and their families/significant others regarding the evaluation, selection, and recommendation of supplies and equipment to ensure optimal wound and ostomy care.
  • Assess and identify the needs of each ostomy/wound patient using direct observation, examination, and medical record/EHR.
  • Implement nursing and medical care plans through safe and therapeutically effective interventions.
  • Assume a leadership role in the implementation of nursing practices that promote continuous quality improvement and desirable patient outcomes.
  • Develop standards of care and assist in the formulation and evaluation of procedures, protocols, and policies related to wound/ostomy patient care.
  • Provide guidance to staff to identify, control, or eliminate etiologic factors for skin breakdown, including selection of appropriate support surfaces.
  • Assist staff to maintain current knowledge and competence in skin, wound, and ostomy management through orientation, in-service programs, and policy reviews per national guidelines.
  • Provide follow-up for patients with ostomies and wound care through outpatient clinic visits, phone consults, and initiate appropriate referrals for medical or surgical intervention.
  • Instruct and demonstrate to patients and/or significant others correct procedures in wound/ostomy management and care related to stomas, appliances, irrigation techniques, and peristomal skin care.
  • Analyze stock items and recommend appropriate additions and deletions to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness of products used for ostomy and wound care.
  • Stay current in area of expertise by participating in professional programs and organizations.
  • Participate in Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) projects and serve on hospital-wide committees as requested.
  • Assist Wound Care/Ostomy Registered Nurse at the clinic with routine procedures, including record maintenance, statistics, and reports as needed.
  • Complete all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training by indicated due dates.
  • Assist, promote, and support compliance with established CMS standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Mandatory

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year Registered Nurse experience and one (1) year experience working directly with Wound Care patients.

Education

Associate of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.

License

Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory.

Certificate

Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification. Obtain Certified Wound Care Certification (CWCC) or equivalent certification through the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) upon employment or within six (6) months from hire date.
