Dental Hygienist - Smile Coordinator

Webster County is looking for an I-Smile Coordinator!The I-Smile Coordinator/Public Health Dental Hygienist provides preventive oral health services and education throughout the community, with an emphasis on reaching underserved and high-risk populations. The position focuses on oral health education, disease prevention, outreach, and improving access to dental care. Services are provided in community-based settings including Head Start programs, preschools, schools, daycare centers, community clinics, and other public health programs.

This is a full-time, 32-hour-per-week position with a flexible Monday through Friday schedule.

• Educate patients, families, and community groups on oral hygiene, oral health, and disease prevention.
• Participate in school-based and community outreach programs.
• Collaborate with dentists, healthcare providers, and community organizations to support access to dental care.
• Refer patients for restorative or specialized dental care as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation and patient records.
• Assist with program planning, data collection, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with infection control standards and public health regulations.
• Provide annual training to staff who provide dental care coordination and/or direct dental services.
• Develop and regularly update agency protocols for the provision of dental care coordination and direct dental services.

• Minimum of an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Dental Hygiene.
• Current Iowa Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license.
• Valid Iowa Driver’s License.
• Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a dental office.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

• Ability to perform clinical dental hygiene procedures.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
• Ability to transport equipment needed for mobile and community outreach services.

• Work is performed in a variety of community settings, including Head Start programs, preschools, schools, daycare centers, WIC sites, and public health departments.
• Travel to community outreach locations is required.
• Regular interaction with diverse populations, including children, families, and underserved groups.

• Salary: Based on qualifications and experience, consistent with the Webster County pay scale.
