Under the general supervision of the Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting student progress, and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment. Provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding progress, expectations and goals.
All positions assigned 30 or more hours weekly (typically 6 hours daily) are eligible for a full benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance and paid leave.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer middle school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Create a welcoming and engaging learning environment for all students.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including special needs students; conduct individual and small‑group instruction as needed.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in education through active participation in professional learning communities and other opportunities.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with other middle school staff to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Supervise students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including transportation and lunch.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain reliable work attendance.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field applicable to middle school education.
- License issued by Iowa BoEE for middle school teaching.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy enabling differentiation.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems, technology devices and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, coworkers and the greater community.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Works in indoor and outdoor environments. May be required to lift up to 20 pounds, operate a computer, sit for extended periods, and engage in frequent moving, communication, and teaching activities.
* Teachers will not be eligible for future sign‑on bonuses if rehired within 3 years of separation. Reimbursement of sign‑on bonus is required if termination occurs before a full year of employment or if the contract is abandoned.
