Position: PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE/REGISTERED NURSE

Public Health Nurse/Registered Nurse

Webster County is looking for a Public Health Nurse/Registered Nurse! The Public Health Nurse/Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring health-related programs and services for individuals, families, and targeted populations within Webster County.

This position provides professional nursing services in a variety of community settings, including homes, childcare centers, clinics, and other community-based environments. The Public Health Nurse assesses and identifies health-related needs and concerns, provides appropriate nursing interventions, and promotes evidence-based health practices.

The Public Health Nurse also plays an active role in community health initiatives, working collaboratively with individuals, families, community partners, and other professionals to promote wellness, prevent disease, improve health outcomes, and encourage community engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Public Health Nurse/Registered Nurse Will:

  • Maternal Health: Provide prenatal and postpartum support, education, and care coordination.
  • Child Health: Support healthy growth and development through screenings, assessments, and family education.
  • Child Care Nurse Consulting: Provide guidance and technical assistance to childcare providers regarding health and safety practices.
  • Immunizations: Administer vaccines and provide immunization education and documentation.
  • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC): Support nutrition and health education services for qualifying individuals and families.
  • Communicable Disease: Conduct communicable disease investigations in accordance with Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS) requirements.
  • Lead Safety: Conduct lead risk assessments or environmental investigations of a child's residence as a Certified Elevated Blood Lead Level Inspector. Training is available upon hire.
  • CPR & First Aid: Teach and certify individuals in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Instructor training is available upon hire.

Client Care & Care Coordination:

  • Deliver direct nursing care, health education, and support tailored to individual client and family needs.
  • Assess health-related concerns and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Coordinate referrals to physicians, healthcare providers, community agencies, and other resources and services.
  • Ensure client safety, privacy, and security in all settings and interactions.
  • Identify and report suspected or observed cases of child or dependent adult abuse or neglect in accordance with agency policy and mandated reporting requirements.

Documentation & Program Support:

  • Maintain accurate and timely client records in accordance with agency protocols and documentation standards.
  • Prepare requested reports for agency administration and program evaluation, including program statistics, health record audits, and work activity documentation.
  • Participate in program monitoring and evaluation activities as assigned.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning, training, exercises, and public health emergency response activities.
Qualifications

The Public Health Nurse/Registered Nurse Shall:

  • Possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa.
  • Possess or obtain required Child and Adult Mandatory Reporter certification.
  • Possess or obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Iowa driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

This position regularly requires walking, standing, and stooping and may frequently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The position also requires the use of tools or equipment involving a high degree of dexterity, regular operation of a motor vehicle, and the ability to maintain concentrated attention to detail for sustained periods.

Work Environment:
The Public Health Nurse must be able to work effectively in a variety of environments, including clinics, family homes, childcare centers, community settings, and outdoor locations. While work is primarily performed in environmentally controlled settings, the position may involve exposure to communicable diseases and environmental hazards.

Due to the nature of public health nursing and the populations served, the position may occasionally involve emotionally challenging or stressful situations.

The employee may be required to be available outside regular office hours as necessary for routine job responsibilities, public health emergencies, or unusual incidents.

  • Maintain automobile insurance as required by Iowa law.
  • Professional malpractice insurance is highly recommended.
