Position Summary

Compensation: $24.00/hr, $1,920.00 bi‑weekly, $49,920.00 annually. Shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts, plus annual merit increases.

Correctional Officer Responsibilities
  • Observe and document behavior of incarcerated individuals to maintain security.
  • Interact with incarcerated individuals using behavioral techniques to facilitate problem‑solving and behavior change.
  • Patrol facilities, conduct security checks, rounds, and counts; inspect all areas for safety and security deficiencies.
  • Search individuals, vehicles, packages, equipment, cells, and property for contraband.
  • Instruct individuals in rules, policies, procedures, and expectations; assist in developing adaptive skills.
  • Escort individuals, visitors, and staff inside and outside the institution; verify passes and legal documents.
  • Interact with the general public, visitors, and victims in person or by phone; provide information, security, and assistance.
  • Model pro‑social behaviors, maintaining dignity and respect for others.
  • Maintain logs, prepare reports, and enter data into the electronic record system.
  • Supervise work assignments and evaluate work performance.
  • Operate electronic doors, telephone systems, two‑way radios, intercom, alarm systems, closed‑circuit TV, personal data assistants, computer terminals, and weapons/control devices.
  • Attend training and professional development classes.
Qualifications
  • High‑school graduation, GED, or equivalency.
  • Ability to pass psychological testing, background investigation, post‑offer health screening, urinalysis for drugs, and training during the probationary period.
  • Designated positions may require a Commercial Driver’s License and endorsements within a specified timeframe.
