Position: Correctional Officer Fort Dodge - 50501 - Webster County

The salary for this position is $24.00/hour / $1,920.00 bi-weekly / $49,920.00 annual.

Job Duties
  • Observe incarcerated individuals' behavior and interactions with staff, other incarcerated persons, and visitors to ensure security and consistent application of change principles.
  • Interact continuously with incarcerated individuals, applying behavioral techniques to assist in problem‑solving, facilitate behavior change, role‑play, provide positive reinforcement, and implement corrective measures.
  • Patrol facilities, conduct security checks, perform rounds and counts, inspect all areas for safety/security deficiencies.
  • Conduct searches of individuals, vehicles, packages, equipment, cells, and property for contraband items.
  • Instruct individuals in rules, policy, procedure, expectations, and assist in developing skills for successful adaptation to institutional life and pro‑social lifestyle.
  • Escort individuals, visitors, and staff inside and outside the institution, verifying passes and legal documents.
  • Interact with the general public, visitors, and victims in person or by phone; provide information, security, and assistance.
  • Model pro‑social behaviors, dignity, and respect for others; recognize that individuals can change through skill development and pro‑social attitudes.
  • Maintain logs, prepare reports, enter information into the Department of Corrections electronic record system.
  • Supervise work assignments, evaluate work performance.
  • Operate electronic doors, telephone systems, two‑way radios, intercom, alarm systems, closed‑circuit TV, personal data assistants, computer terminals, and weapons or control devices.
  • Attend training and professional development classes.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalency; graduation required.
  • Complete psychological tests, background investigation check, post‑offer health screen administered by an institutional physician, and urinalysis drug screen.
  • Successfully complete all new employee training during the probationary period, including local orientation, new employee orientation, and emergency preparedness training.
  • Designated positions may require a Commercial Driver's License and endorsements as determined at the time of hire.
