Welder
The welder welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors, and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment. All work is accomplished IAW with the applicable Army regulations, Technical Manuals, Technical Bulletins, and Repair Manuals. Perform maintenance and repair activities on various vehicles and pieces of equipment including but not limited to heavy equipment, small engines, lawn mowers, tractors, trailers, all-terrain vehicles, forklifts, tactical and non-tactical equipment.
Perform maintenance and repair activities on various vehicles and pieces of equipment including but not limited to heavy equipment, tactical and non-tactical heavy-duty trucks, semi-tractors, KALMARs and material handling equipment, i.e., 4000lb to a 40 Ton Forklifts, M4
Ks, Atlas M270s, Dozers (D7G), graders, Heavy Duty Agricultural Equipment, compressors, air compressors, and ground support equipment, generators, water / hydraulic pumps, electrical systems, fuel and exhaust systems.
- Welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes, performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts, positions, and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
- May locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch.
- May perform repairs only and be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
- The Welder, Combination, Maintenance will layout, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, and pressure vessels
- Implement welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements to include experimental welding to analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations
- Layout, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specification, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
- Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment to include MMW (Manual Metal Arc), FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding) and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding).
- Cut work pieces, using powered saws, hand shears, break press or chipping knife.
- Observe tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimensions tolerance to evaluate weld quality conformance to specifications.
- Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precession measuring.
- Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinders, hand file, or scraper.
- Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions. Heat, form, and dress metal parts, using hand tools, torch, and arc welder welding equipment.
- Have the knowledge to ignite torches and adjust oxygen and acetylene to obtain desired flame.
- Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts and/or structures.
- Operates and utilizes an assortment of tools to perform repairs that include power, pneumatic and machinery such as grinding machines, presses, torch cutting equipment, jacks and hoists to lift and move large components.
- Operates and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoist and hand tools, examining parts for damage, or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions and tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Maintain good housekeeping, and energy conservation and safety precautions always.
- Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested, which may include travel to and assisting at other sites to accommodate applicant flow.
- Performs diagnostic test using measuring devices, instruments, test equipment or special tools.
- Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
- Operates and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles, and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examine parts for damage or excessive wear using Micrometers and gauges, replace defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and test overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Operates, inspects, and repairs hydraulic-operated transmissions and attachments, hydraulic cylinders, drive trains, tracked vehicles, heavy-duty truck suspensions and steering systems.
