Responsibilities
  • Install, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling in Inside Plant (ISP) environments, including racks, patch panels, and cable trays.
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on telecommunications systems and infrastructure.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, cable plans, and system schematics to support proper installation and configuration.
  • Conduct thorough quality inspections of cabling installations and document results for compliance with industry standards (e.g., BICSI, TIA/EIA).
  • Support the Quality Control (QC) process by verifying adherence to technical specifications and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and update redline drawings and ensure accurate As-Built documentation.
  • Perform continuity and performance testing using Fluke or equivalent testers for copper/fiber systems.
  • Identify non-compliance or deficiencies and provide feedback or rework recommendations to field teams.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and tools; report material shortages or quality issues.
  • Support site surveys and assist with estimating labor and materials for proposed work.
  • Ensure job site cleanliness, safety compliance, and proper use of PPE.
  • Collaborate with the project team, site manager, and customer stakeholders on quality and performance standards.
  • Perform all administrative, operations and maintenance (O&M) functions, and routines required on Inside Plant (ISP) systems and equipment, including telephone switching equipment, voice mail system, Telephone Management System (TMS), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) programming, firewall and other ancillary equipment and systems directly connected to the switch.
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, program, monitor, maintain, and repair digital switching equipment, attendant consoles, power and ringing relay racks, miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and other circuits and related apparatus required in the central switching office.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on switch hardware and equipment.
  • Resolve customer trouble calls related to voice issues.
  • Analyze system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors.
  • Maintain manual and/or computerized central office records, including detail records, traffic analysis records, cable records, line records, subscriber service records, and spare parts inventories.
  • Support includes performing remote diagnostics, parts and material repair or replacement, emergency technical support, and technical documentation updates.
  • Maintain synchronous optical network.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty switch circuit packs and switching equipment.
  • Install and troubleshoot T-1 circuits.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot trunks.
  • Maintain customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions.
  • May assist with work order and trouble ticket administration within the Telephone Management System (TMS).
  • Maintain safe work environment and conditions by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Provide other duties as assigned to support contract requirements.
  • Attend training sessions as required (DoD, Information Assurance, Security, Corporate).
Qualifications Education and Certifications
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BICSI TE350 Technician or Installer 2 Certification (copper and/or fiber) preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • OSHA Confined Space.
  • Holocom certification.
  • Avaya Certified Implementation Spec (ACIS).
Knowledge And Experience
  • 5+ years of experience on maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems with a focus on Inside Plant environments.
  • Knowledge and experience with Avaya and VoIP communications systems.
  • Proficient in the use of cable testers (e.g., Fluke DTX/DSX), fusion splicers, OTDRs, tone generators, and other related tools.
