The School Bus Driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school and various extracurricular activities. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, maintaining a high standard of customer service, and maintaining a clean driving record. The driver will be responsible for conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in good working condition.

Additionally, the driver will foster a positive and respectful environment for students, promoting good behavior and addressing any issues that may arise during transit. Ultimately, the School Bus Driver is a vital link in the educational process, contributing to the overall well-being and safety of the students they transport on Fort Knox.

• Valid Kentucky Commercial Class B driver’s license, including passenger endorsement;
  School Bus Certificate; must pass driving record check.

• Clean driving record with no major violations.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

• Experience driving large vehicles or buses.
• Familiarity with local traffic patterns and school zones.
• First Aid and CPR certification.

• Safely operate a school bus along designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition.
• Maintain accurate records of passenger counts, routes taken, and any incidents that occur during the shift.
• Maintain a clean and organized bus interior, ensuring a welcoming environment for students.
• Monitor student behavior during transit and enforce safety rules to ensure a safe journey.
• Communicate effectively with school officials, parents, and students regarding transportation schedules and any issues that may arise.

The required skills for this position, such as reading maps and understanding DOT regulations, are essential for navigating routes efficiently and safely. Basic computer literacy is utilized for logging hours and communicating within the company. Knowledge of vehicle suspension and brakes is critical for performing inspections and ensuring the bus operates smoothly. Team building skills are important for collaborating with school staff and parents to address any transportation concerns.
