Auditor III

POSITION GOAL:
Ensure Broward County School District's assets are safeguarded by performing and/or supervising independent appraisal activity within the school district for the review of accounting, financial, property, inventory and/or other operations to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of accounting, internal, and managerial controls; effective and efficient operations; and compliance with School Board policy, state laws, and administrative directives.

To perform duties and work assignments that may be varied and somewhat difficult in nature, but which usually involve limited responsibility. (Some evaluation and ingenuity required). To work at this level consists of the audit of operations, property, inventory, and/or accounting processes that are relatively stable and well-established. The audits primarily involve the collection and analysis of readily available findings; there is previous audit experience that is directly applicable;

the audit reports are normally prepared in a prescribed format using a standard method of presentation; and few, if any, major problems are anticipated.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Auditor III shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below:

  • Improve department effectiveness by recommending and developing internal auditing policies, procedures, and programs based on best practices for safeguarding assets.
  • Monitor, audit and/or supervise the assigned internal audit program area by reviewing all accounting procedures, confirmation of accounts; inspection of physical operations; and/or performing property and inventory audit procedures to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud in adherence to School Board policy according to the audit plan.
  • Oversee the audit of the assigned operation, location, or process to ascertain the extent of compliance with established policies, plans and procedures and ascertain the reliability of accounting, inventory, and other data developed within the organization.
  • Identify irregularities uncovered by the audit process, determine causes for irregularities and errors, and provide feedback to the appropriate administrator to increase controls and reduce costs.
  • Prepare reports of each audit, which include recommendations for improvement, and present findings to the School Board and the appropriate management personnel.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned audit staff by counseling, overseeing, and instructing in audit control procedures, best business practices, applicable laws, school board policies, and administrative directives to ensure that audit objectives are met.
  • Support legal actions which may result from audit findings by appearing as a witness in court or assisting the School Board Attorney's office in recovering District assets.
  • Audit accounting records of contractors wherein the School District is a party at interest.
  • Discuss and review preliminary recommendations with the appropriate management personnel following the audit.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

• Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.

• Computer skills as required for position.

• Experience requirements may be specified based on assigned audit area.

• Auditor I, II, and III jobs are designated as one job for the purpose of the job progression when the employee has an evaluation indicating that his/her job performance has met or exceeded the expectations of the job.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Bilingual skills preferred.

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

Periodically may participate in the presentation of reports and recommendations to Senior Management, including the Superintendent, School Board, Audit Committee, Area Superintendents, Directors, and Principals to communicate findings from audits. Frequently works with employees of all levels throughout the District to conduct audits.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
