Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Accounting Manager to serve as a senior individual contributor and subject-matter expert for complex accounting matters. This individual will research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP and IFRS guidance while helping ensure the organization’s accounting policies, financial reporting, and technical conclusions are accurate, consistent, and well-supported.
The Technical Accounting Manager will collaborate with executive leadership, external auditors, legal counsel, and cross-functional business partners. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with exceptional written communication skills and the ability to translate complex accounting guidance into practical business recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor new and proposed accounting standards issued by the FASB, IASB, SEC, and other regulatory or standard-setting organizations
- Evaluate the potential impact of accounting and reporting changes on the organization
- Research complex, unusual, and nonrecurring transactions under U.S. GAAP and IFRS
- Develop clear, well-supported accounting conclusions using authoritative guidance
- Advise stakeholders on the accounting implications of proposed transactions, contracts, restructurings, and other business arrangements
- Prepare comprehensive technical accounting white papers and position memos addressing complex transactions, new standards, and areas of audit focus
- Structure technical documentation to include the accounting issue, relevant guidance, facts and circumstances, analysis, conclusion, and financial statement or journal-entry impact
- Develop and maintain accounting policies that reflect current U.S. GAAP and IFRS requirements
- Ensure technical documentation is precise, consistent, and defensible under external audit review
- Serve as a key internal advisor for technical accounting questions raised by Finance, Operations, Legal, Tax, Treasury, and other business functions
- Provide timely guidance on the accounting impact of transactions and business decisions before execution
- Evaluate differences between U.S. GAAP and IFRS when dual-framework reporting is required
- Advise on conversion adjustments, financial statement presentation, and disclosure requirements
- Assess the accounting implications of regulatory developments, tax matters, and entity restructurings
- Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors regarding technical accounting matters
- Support and defend the organization’s accounting positions using authoritative literature and well-reasoned analysis
- Prepare and review audit support packages, technical memos, work papers, and management representations
- Respond to audit inquiries and help resolve complex accounting matters efficiently
- Draft and review financial statement footnote disclosures related to significant accounting policies, estimates, and judgments
- Ensure consistency between documented accounting positions, journal entries, financial statements, and related disclosures
- Support accurate and timely reporting under U.S. GAAP and, when applicable, IFRS
- Partner with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Operations, and other teams to evaluate the financial reporting impact of business decisions
- Communicate complex accounting topics clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders
- Develop and deliver internal training related to new accounting standards, technical guidance, and policy changes
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to members of the broader finance and accounting organization
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Approximately 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant technical accounting research responsibilities
- Public accounting experience with a strong foundation in assurance, accounting advisory, or technical accounting
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical accounting white papers and position memos that have successfully undergone external audit review
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience interpreting authoritative accounting guidance
- Excellent written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate technical accounting conclusions clearly and confidently to senior leadership, auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Three or more years of experience in technical accounting advisory or external assurance
- Experience working in a capital-intensive, multi-entity, or joint-venture environment
- Experience with dual-framework reporting under U.S. GAAP and IFRS
- Familiarity with complex organizational structures and transactions
