Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Office of the Provost. The student worker provides administrative and operational support to the Office of the Provost and Faculty Senate while contributing to the effective functioning of the university's chief academic affairs office.
As the first point of contact for the Office of the Provost and affiliated academic and administrative units, the Student Worker delivers professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and external stakeholders by assisting with inquiries, directing guests, and supporting office communications. The position assists with a variety of administrative functions including records management, scheduling, event support, meeting coordination, data entry, and special projects.
This role requires a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail, as the Student Worker may have access to sensitive and confidential information. The position offers valuable experience in higher education administration while supporting initiatives that advance the university's academic mission.
Core Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary reception and customer service contact for the Office of the Provost by greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, answering telephone calls, and directing individuals to appropriate resources.
- Provide administrative support through data entry, document preparation, records management, scanning, filing, and maintaining electronic and physical files.
- Assist with scheduling, meeting coordination, calendar management, and preparation of materials for the Office of the Provost and Faculty Senate.
- Support Faculty Senate operations by assisting with communications, maintaining records, and preparing meeting materials.
- Coordinate event and meeting logistics, including room reservations, setup, technology support, and related administrative activities.
- Communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders on behalf of the Office of the Provost and Faculty Senate.
- Assist with research projects, travel-related documentation and processes, special assignments, and other duties as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and protected information in accordance with university policies and applicable regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment when handling sensitive information.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Word.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional office environment.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
Preferred Qualifications:
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Previous customer service or office experience.
- Experience working with confidential records or sensitive information.
- Experience supporting meetings, events, or campus activities.
- Experience with data entry, research, proofreading, or document preparation.
Work Hours:
This position will work up to 19.5 hours per week.
Hourly Rate:
$14.00 per hour.
