Perform clerical and administrative support duties within the Office of the General Counsel, including document processing, recordkeeping, and basic coordination of office activities. This role follows established procedures to support efficient office operations while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESThe Legal Assistant shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below:
- Follow general instructions and operational procedures to perform advanced clerical work and assume detailed responsibilities.
- Receive and read incoming mail; screen items which can be handled personally; forward to the supervisor or appropriate staff member together with necessary background material.
- Compile edit and organize information for special reports and documents as requested.
- Assist with processing, filing, and organizing documents related to legal matters in accordance with established procedures.
- Verify, check, and examine technical and complex surveys and other types of reports for accuracy and compliance with State and School Board standards.
- Maintain control records on the incoming correspondence and action documents and follow up on work in process to ensure timely reply or action.
- Maintain necessary files and perform all clerical work related to the supervisor's program; act as office receptionist, answer telephone, greet, announce, and route visitors.
- Assemble and summarize information from files and documents in the office or other available sources for the supervisor's use on the basis of general instructions as to the nature of information needed.
- Perform independent clerical work of a technical nature requiring the exercise of independent and unreviewed judgment.
- Operate standard office equipment, as required by the job.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
- Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, or designee.
- A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
- A minimum of five (5) years of clerical experience including word processor and microcomputer experience.
- Ability to perform a variety of clerical tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Effective verbal, written, and communication skills.
- Advanced organization skills and keen attentiveness to detail.
- Computer skills as required for the position.
- An earned associate degree.
- Proficiency in shorthand.
- Bilingual skills.
Frequently works with board members, senior management, and Superintendent as necessary; interacts with staff and the general public regarding various inquiries.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSLight Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
