JOB SUMMARY:

This is responsible administrative work of more than average difficulty directing the administrative operations of the building permit application process with the objective of ensuring accurate and efficient assistance is provided to the general public and the business community, in accordance with compliance of established State, County and City codes. The employee is assigned to the administrative functions associated with the intake and issuance of all building permits, the timely and accurate processing of permit and property documents, and customer service, phone and building reception.

Work requires the independent application of building permit procedures and regulations. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through conferences and review of work in progress.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Permit Services Manager, assists other office personnel in the monitoring and tracking of applications through the streamline permitting system to improve agency responsiveness, technical assistance, and support.
  • Assists contractors, developers and the public regarding procedures associated with building permits.
  • Receives and processes various permits applications; reviews for completeness and sufficient documentation and computes appropriate fees.
  • Answers inquiries and requests from the general public and business community, through friendly, professional customer service skills, ascertain the needs of the customer and providing appropriate assistance and information.
  • Checks and reviews a variety of data for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to established standards and procedures.
  • Checks to ensure contractors are properly licensed; verifies data with appropriate State agency; helps contractors fill out license applications.
  • Ability to schedule inspections.
  • Performs informational research for inclusion into reports and to ascertain background information on addresses, business entities or other pertinent information.
  • Operates computer, and other office automated equipment.
  • Maintains and files records related to issuance of permits.
  • Types forms, reports, memoranda and letters.
  • Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
