Primary Purpose
Counsels potential and enrolled graduate students and provides educational guidance services. Facilitates student success by resolving student issues interfering with student admission, enrollment, academic progress, and graduation.

Essential Job Functions
Maintains current knowledge of program requirements, course requirements, and sequencing, and establishes and maintains relationships with program faculty.Tracks and monitors student academic progress for assigned program(s) or cohorts.Reviews, resolves, and communicates decisions regarding extensions of time to complete coursework in accordance with established policies and procedures.Advises students on issues such as course selection, progress toward graduation, and career decisions.Counsels students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, class scheduling and registration. May conduct exit interviews for student withdrawals.Counsels students regarding educational issues, such as course and program selection, progress toward graduation, and career decisions. May conduct exit interviews for student withdrawals.Counsels individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational situations.Reviews degree plans to ensure that students meet graduation requirements. Advises students on continuing graduate education entrance requirements.Reviews degree plans to ensure that students meet graduation requirements. Advises students on graduate medical education (residency) entrance requirements.Refers students to degree programs and concentrations.Provides students with information on topics, such as college degree programs, admission requirements, and financial aid opportunities.Assesses needs for assistance, such as rehabilitation, financial aid, or additional training, and refers clients to the appropriate services.Participates in recruitment and enrollment activities.Prepares reports on outreach to students and activities as required by administration.Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, and administrative regulations.Attends meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops and serves on committees.Completes special projects as assigned.Performs other duties as assigned or required.Job Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge:
- Customer and Personal Service – General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Psychology – General knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
- Therapy and Counseling – General knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance.
- Skills:
- Active Listening – Proficient skills in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
