Essential Job Functions- Assess individual children's levels, strengths, weaknesses and learning styles.
- Develop, update, and implement IEPs.
- Record and maintain school, classroom, and students' information such as attendance, student files, referral information, progress reports, lesson plans, curriculum development, and collection of data.
- Attend and participate in departmental/division meetings, planning projects, activities, and school-related evening programs.
- Prepare daily and weekly lesson plans in a manner that is responsive to the individual strengths and needs of the children; share in a team or grade level planning.
- Establish and maintain a positive learning environment that reflects the school's philosophy.
- Refer students, when necessary, following school procedures.
- Communicate with parents and professional staff on a regular basis.
- Conduct parent conferences.
- Integrate technology into the teaching-learning process.
- Maintain proper discipline and assist students in developing self‑discipline and a sense of responsibility.
- Establish a humanistic, systematic classroom code of conduct.
- Participate in arrival/dismissal, playground and lunch time supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
- Attend faculty meetings.
- Attend PTO meetings when needed.
- Oversee Teacher Assistant and/or Aide.
- Oversee undergraduate and graduate students.
- Provide training.
- Register for the 45‑hour training classes within the first 90 days of employment and complete such training within the first year of employment.
- Complete eight (8) in‑service credit hours per school year.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Ability to lift, carry, and put down up to fifty pounds on a continuous basis.
- Repeated lifting and placing down of children required.
- Valid State of Florida Statement of Eligibility or verification of written application and transcripts with degree conferred.
- Passing scores on the state required General Knowledge Test (or CLAST test) within the first year of employment.
Required
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
- Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
- Experience working with special needs children.
- Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
