Purpose:

The Halmos College of Arts and Sciences and Guy Harvey Oceanographic Research Center
(HCAS) of Nova Southwestern University (NSU) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach graduate and doctoral-level courses for NSU.

Essential Job Functions:
  • 1. Teach assigned courses professionally and in accordance with university, college, and program requirements.
  • 2. Prepare and submit course syllabi by established deadlines.
  • 3. Maintain regular and professional communication with students and the program supervisor.
  • 4. Respond to student and supervisor communications within 48 hours.
  • 5. Provide students with timely and substantive feedback on assignments, assessments, and academic progress.
  • 6. Submit grades, progress reports, attendance information, and other required documentation accurately and by established deadlines.
  • 7. Maintain appropriate course and student records and provide them to the program supervisor when requested.
Job Requirements:

Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in an online learning environment and to use learning management systems, videoconferencing platforms, email, and other instructional technologies required for course delivery.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • 1. Demonstrated expertise appropriate for teaching graduate and doctoral-level courses in conflict analysis and resolution.
  • 2. Ability to connect theory, research, and practice in the classroom and to mentor doctoral students.
  • 3. Strong written, oral, interpersonal, organizational, and instructional technology skills.
  • 4. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
  • 5. Adjunct faculty may also be asked to serve as members of dissertation committees when their expertise aligns with a student’s research.
Required Certifications/Licensures:

Required

Education:

Doctoral Degree

Major (if required):Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Peace and Conflict Studies, Peace building, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution or its international equivalent.

Required Experience:
  • 1. Demonstrated expertise related to the assigned course.
  • 2. Prior graduate teaching and online teaching experience preferred.
  • 3. Practitioner experience preferred for practice courses, ethics, public policy, and practicum courses.
  • 4. Research-methods expertise required for quantitative, qualitative, research design, or dissertation-related courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1. Prior experience teaching graduate or doctoral-level courses.
  • 2. Prior experience teaching in an online or blended-learning environment.
  • 3. Professional practice experience in mediation, negotiation, facilitation, conflict intervention, peace building, public policy, organizational conflict, community conflict, ethics, or another area relevant to the assigned course.
  • 4. Experience mentoring doctoral students or serving on dissertation committees.
  • 5. Evidence of scholarship, applied research, or professional service in conflict analysis and resolution or a related field.
