Job DescriptionACCOUNTABILITY:
Director of Public Programs
SUMMARY:
The After school and Camp Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the execution of educational camps and after-school programs, managing a budget, developing and meeting revenue goals, supervising camp and after-school staff, marketing programs, creating partnerships, engaging parents, and developing educational, hands-on science programs. This position also serves as a Floor Manager as needed, supervising staff and public programs on the Museum floor.
Must be available to work holidays or weekends and overnights as needed for events and other museum activities.
Bachelor’s degree required, in education, environmental science, biology or related field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a museum or educational camp or aftercare setting with an emphasis on operations and customer service. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift 50 lbs. Requires excellent interpersonal, motivational, conflict resolution and supervisory skills. Must be available to work weekdays, weekends, holidays and some evenings.
RESPONSBILITIES:- 1. Develop, implement, teach, and supervise hands‑on educational programs for camps and after‑school programs.
- 2. Supervise and train the staff in the operations of camp and after‑school programs to ensure programs are delivered at a high quality and that all programs have the necessary supplies and materials.
- 3. Work with the Director of Public Programs to evaluate the effectiveness of programming and systems for camps and after‑school programs. Make the appropriate adjustments needed to improve the programs.
- 4. Provide ongoing support and guidance to staff to ensure a positive and enriching camp and after‑school experience for participants.
- 5. Ensure the safety and well‑being of camp and after‑school participants through proper supervision and adherence to safety protocols.
- 6. Oversee registration processes and communicate effectively with parents/guardians for camp programs.
- 7. Coordinate logistics for camp and after‑school programs, including scheduling, facilities, and materials.
- 8. Work closely and collaboratively with the staff from Boys and Girls Club for the after school programs.
- 9. Proactively develop working relationships with various agencies to form collaborations, which will build the fee‑based program audience and meet budget goals. These partnerships and relationships include organizations like the Boy and Girl Scouts, church groups, Indian Guides and Schools. Attend relevant community events to raise awareness about museum camp offerings.
- 10. Collect feedback from camp and after‑school participants, parents, and staff for program improvement. Prepare and submit reports on all programs.
- 11. Implement programs within budget cost parameters.
- 12. Deliver or assist with public programs, school programs, summer camps, early childhood, day camps, and outreach as needed.
- 13. Serve as the floor supervisor as needed.
- 14. Other duties as assigned and qualified.
