* JOB SUMMARY:
This is inspection, administrative and supervisory work in securing compliance with the city building regulations, codes and ordinances. An employee in this class is responsible for compliance in the inspection of buildings, structures, and premises for conformance with building code, for assigning and reviewing the work of other building inspectors, and for reviewing structural plans.
Work requires the use of technical knowledge and discretion in reviewing plans for and inspecting a variety of projects.
Unusual or difficult technical and enforcement problems are reviewed with the Chief Building Official, who also reviews periodic inspection reports and work when necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Supervises employees and inspects buildings in the process of construction for compliance with building code requirements; inspects sites before construction for practicability of plans.
* Supervises and coordinates inspections for alteration and repair jobs by checking sites, existing buildings and work in process; examines plans submitted with permit applications for conformance with building requirements.
* Receives applications and plans, checks structural features of plans, answers inquiries concerning building code requirements.
* Prepares reports of building inspections and investigations; recommends interpretations of any revisions to building regulations; trains new building inspectors.
* Attends seminars and training courses to stay informed on new developments in the related field and to obtain current information of code changes.
* Must effectively and positively represents the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
* Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
* Performs related work as required for this position description only.
EDUCATION/
EXPERIENCE:
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
* Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
* Must be certified as required by the State of Florida, BCAIB as a Structural Plans Examiner and as a Structural Inspector. Architects and Engineers are exempt from BCAIB only. Must be certified by Board of Rules and Appeals and meet at least one of the following qualifications: (1) Per Chapter 104.8 of the Florida Building Code, Broward County Amendments, to be eligible for appointment as a Structural Plans Examiner such person shall be certified as required by the State of Florida, Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) as a Structural Plans Examiner and Structural Inspector.
* Such person shall be certified by Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals and shall meet one or more of the following qualifications:
PREFERRED: 1. An Architect or an Engineer in the discipline requested and having practiced within the HVHZ for at least three(3) years, and two (2) years as a Structural Inspector;
Or
2. Ten (10) years experience as a licensed General Contractor (Unlimited), five (5) years of which shall have been construction experience in the Structural discipline within the HVHZ, and two (2) years as a Structural Inspector within the HVHZ;

3. Five (5) years experience in the State of Florida Structural Plans Examiner or…
