The work you will do:
District Design Engineer / District Four / Transportation Development / Engineering Design
This position leads and oversees the District Design section, managing multiple engineering subsections and ensuring that all design plans meet FDOT standards, regulations, and quality expectations. It provides professional engineering guidance, coordinates with internal and external stakeholders, and contributes to statewide design policy development. The role also manages personnel, budget, and continuous process improvements to support the Department's goals and the 5 ‑ Year Work Program.

Your specific responsibilities:
Manages and directs the activities of the District Design section which includes the subsections of Roadway Design, Structures Design, Surveying & Mapping, Drainage Design, Traffic Design, Utilities Design, and Consultant Project Management. Establishes a working environment to enhance productivity, efficiency, promotes the Department's business model, and contributes to the success of the Department's goals, mission and vision. Provides design guidance that is consistent with Department policies.
This position has financial disclosure responsibility in accordance with Section 112.3145, Florida Statutes. Supervises and directs the preparation and development of all plans prepared by the District Design Office for letting. This includes, but is not limited to, all roadway plans, structural plans, signing and pavement marking plans, signalization plans, lighting plans, landscape plans, utility joint preparation agreement plans, mitigation plans and architectural plans.
(Plans may be prepared by in-house forces or by consultants hired by the Department.) Ensures all designs and contract plans are developed with a high level of quality, with an emphasis on cost effective and economical products that are in accordance with applicable federal regulations, state laws, and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) policy and standards. Incorporates technological improvements and innovations into designs and plans production to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
