For nearly 100 years we have been the bank that clients from every industry turn to for expertise, strategies, and advice—building the trust that can fuel every goal. We are the leading relationship bank built for growth—with over $60 billion in assets, 3,800 experts, and more than 200 consumer branches and commercial banking offices across the United States.

We are driven by an ambition that goes deeper than just having a job. When you work for us, we help you focus on what drives you—turning your passions and strengths into assets you can use to propel your ambitions and build your professional legacy. When we say we’re a relationship bank built for growth, that is reserved not only for our clients, but for all our associates as well.

As a Banking Service Professional, the Personal Banker provides effective support of sales and service activities within various branches on a rotating basis, developing new business by educating existing and potential clients and exemplifying Valley’s quality service standards. The role includes providing banking solutions by analyzing needs, recommending solutions, and selling bank products and services to existing and potential clients within the division.

Perform routine banking transactions (teller and platform), while supporting the Market Manager in achieving quality service and complying with operational procedures at the assigned location.

Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service in accordance with Valley’s mission statement and engage customers with friendly, professional service.
  • Show knowledge of all bank products and services, educate and demonstrate to customers, and cross‑sell various products and services.
  • Present a confident, professional demeanor to establish trust, gain customer knowledge, analyze needs, and recommend appropriate products and services.
  • Travel to various branch locations as directed by the District Operations Manager, ensuring high levels of customer service across the branch network.
  • Meet customers to analyze financial needs and maximize sales opportunities; offer all bank products, assist with service needs, open new accounts (checking, savings, CDs, IRAs), discuss/sell loan products, and demonstrate online and mobile banking.
  • Meet customer expectations and achieve service quality standards; oversee the sales referral process and coach and mentor branch staff.
  • Perform all customer transactions and use technology (teller scanning equipment, cash recycling and dispensing machines, coin machines) to provide services efficiently; maintain and balance a cash box.
  • Act as vault teller to ensure branch cash adequacy for daily transactions by ordering, shipping, and controlling currency and coin; distribute cash to tellers within prescribed limits.
  • Report significant matters, issues, and unusual customer activity to the manager while maintaining awareness of compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with the bank’s Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures.
Required Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to write correspondence and accurately demonstrate products and services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer‑service skills, attentiveness, information retention, tact, and diplomacy in dealings with customers and employees.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills to uncover and resolve complex customer issues.
  • Adaptability to different staff and customers in varying branches while delivering consistent service.
  • Ability to make sound decisions, weighing customer satisfaction against bank exposure to loss or fraud, and to rationalize decisions on the spot.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled form.
  • Deep understanding of retail banking and strong customer‑service skills to engage customers in product and service conversations.
  • Detail‑oriented, strong organizational skills, and high accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient computer skills.
Required Experience
  • High school diploma or GED and at least one year of business‑services experience in branch banking and knowledge of branch operations, or successful completion of a Valley Retail training program.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting, business, finance, economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • FIS/IBS (Integrated Banking Solutions) experience preferred.
