The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Human Rights Specialist position with the
Human Services Department -
Housing Options, Solutions, and Supports Division.
The Human Services Department is seeking a Human Rights Specialist to support the fair, efficient, and professional administration of discrimination inquiries and complaints under the Broward County Human Rights Act.
The Human Rights Specialist serves as a key point of contact for both complainants and respondents, assessing initial inquiries to determine jurisdiction, drafting formal complaints, and conducting thorough interviews with all involved parties. Responsibilities include investigating cases, evaluating evidence, drafting detailed reports and determinations, and entering required information into the HUD portal. The position also facilitates conciliations when applicable and works independently to manage cases while providing regular updates to leadership.
The role further supports the Human Rights Board and performs related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and communication skills, experience in investigations or human rights compliance, and the ability to manage multiple case components with accuracy, fairness, and a high level of professionalism.

General DescriptionResponsible for Investigating employment, housing, and public accommodations discrimination complaints and other cases that fall within the jurisdiction of the Human Rights Section, Housing Options, Solutions, and Support Division.
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, law or closely related field.
Requires two (2) years and six (6) months of experience conducting investigations and regulatory compliance in one of the following specialties:
Equal Employment Opportunity;
Fair Housing;
Public Accommodations Discrimination;
Ethics, Wage Recovery, Living Wage,Cone of Silence violations;
Americans with Disabilities Act;
Fraud Examinations and Auditing; or closely related field.
Depending on area of assignment, FL Driver's License may be required
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, law or closely related field.
Doctoral Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, law or closely related field.
Mediator Certification
Fair Housing Investigator Certification
One (1) year or more experience as a mediator or in conflict resolution.
One (1) year or more experience of advanced written communication for legal-style reports.
One (1) year or more experience working with diverse populations and stakeholders.
Bilingual in Spanish, Creole, or Portugese (speak, read & write)
