Position Statement

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HR Generalist to join our team. The HR Generalist will be responsible for managing various aspects of human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and general HR related administrative duties. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented professional who can support the agency's HR initiatives and foster a positive workplace culture.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists with the recruiting and evaluating job candidates; referring appropriate candidates to the hiring manager and managing the volunteer and intern programs at all Covenant House Florida (CHF) locations.
  • Assists the Chief Human Resources Officer by researching and contacting community services, colleges, employment agencies, recruiters, and internet sites; providing general information, making presentations; and maintaining rapport.
  • Coordinates the onboarding process for new team members, interns and volunteers, including verification of credentials, background screenings, reference checks, and the provision and coordination of orientation.
  • Assists the Chief Human Resources Officer with the administration of all facets of employee benefit and wellness programs including planning and coordinating open enrollment, processing monthly bills and verifying enrollment information.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the CHF work environment and culture. Coordinates team members engagement activities and events, such as health and wellness, recruitment, employee recognition, and professional development.
  • Maintains accurate team member, intern, and volunteer records by ensuring that the documentation in digital and paper files are in compliance with licensing standards and governmental regulations.
  • Ensures that CHF team members, interns and volunteers are treated in accordance with the Mission and Principles of the agency.
  • Other assigned duties in support of the smooth operation of the agency.
Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in human resource management or studying toward a degree in human resource management or related field. SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.
  • Experience: One (1) year of proven experience working in an office environment. Working knowledge of U.S. labor laws. Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information System) software is advantageous.
  • Schedule: Flexible hours as required to meet agency needs during events which may take place outside of regular Monday-Friday business hours; this may include evenings, weekends, and early mornings. However, this position is typically scheduled Monday-Friday for an eight (8) hour shift per day. This is not a remote based position.
  • Skills: Must be a self-starter and team player with the ability to work well with others. Ability to promote a positive work environment, provide constructive feedback, and exercise appropriate authority when needed. strong organizational and communication skills, strong problem-solving skills, and the capability to maintain sensitive documentation for employees and applicants. Must be able to effectively interact with multi-disciplinary staff, and with all levels of the organization.

    Desired qualities include knowledge of employment law, practices and procedures, interviewing skills, and knowledge of effective volunteer management practices.
  • Transportation: Must have a valid FL driver’s license and good driving record. May need to travel to job fairs, and other Covenant House Sponsored events.
