Portfolio Excellence & Insights Lead

Contract

Position Summary

This role turns portfolio, financial, delivery and resource data into clear insights that help leadership make informed decisions. The Portfolio Excellence & Insights Lead develops dashboards and reporting, identifies trends and improvement opportunities, and uses automation and AI-enabled tools to increase visibility and reduce manual effort.
This is a lead-level individual contributor role focused on analysis and decision support—not formal oversight of programs, projects or project managers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze portfolio performance, budgets, forecasts, actuals, resource capacity, risks, dependencies and delivery trends.
  • Develop actionable insights and recommendations to support planning, prioritization, investment decisions and value realization.
  • Create executive-ready dashboards, scorecards, reports and visual stories using tools such as Power BI, Excel and Power Platform.
  • Consolidate data from project, financial, work-management and enterprise reporting systems into reliable, user-friendly views.
  • Identify financial variances, funding shifts, burn-rate concerns, capacity risks and skill gaps.
  • Automate repetitive reporting, analysis, intake and portfolio-health processes using workflow, low-code and AI-enabled tools.
  • Establish reusable metrics, templates, reporting standards and process improvements that strengthen consistency and data quality.
  • Translate complex findings into concise leadership presentations, scenarios and recommendations.
Required Qualifications
  • 5-8+ years of experience in portfolio analysis, PMO, business operations, technology delivery, financial analysis, reporting, analytics or process improvement.
  • Strong understanding of project portfolio management, delivery life cycles, portfolio health, prioritization, value realization and resource capacity.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing budgets, forecasts, actuals, variances, investments or resource-related financials.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, identify meaningful trends and turn findings into clear recommendations.
  • Experience building dashboards, scorecards, visual reports or self-service analytics using Power BI, Excel, Power Platform, Microsoft Fabric or comparable tools.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, automate reporting or workflows, and reduce manual effort.
  • Strong executive communication, storytelling, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, AI-enabled analytics, Azure Dev Ops, Service Now PPM or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting portfolio planning, governance reporting, resource analysis or executive decision support in a technology or enterprise delivery environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Analytics, Technology or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP, SAFe, Lean Six Sigma, Power BI or Power Platform.
Ideal Candidate

A strategic, hands-on analyst who combines portfolio and financial knowledge with strong technical curiosity. This person is comfortable working through ambiguity and fragmented data, building practical reporting solutions, and using visualization, automation and AI to make portfolio management more transparent and effective.

Role Scope
  • Role level:
Senior individual contributor / lead-level role
  • Primary focus:
Portfolio analytics, financial insights, dashboards, automation, process improvement and executive decision support
  • Does not own:
Formal program or project oversight, management of project managers, portfolio governance decisions or routine status administration
