Join the U.S. Navy Research and Development team working offshore on research vessels and ashore in fabrication and test facilities. TMG offers a full‑time Machinist/Fabricator position supporting the Navy in Fort Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA’s South Florida Ocean Measurement Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation facility.
LocationFort Lauderdale (Dania Beach), Florida
Experience Level3-5 years of machining or fabrication experience. Responsible for setting up and running machines, eliminating defects, producing parts, reading and interpreting drawings, operating 3‑axis CNC mill, CNC lathe, manual mills, lathes, drill press, grinders, and other equipment. Must be able to use CAD to design fixtures, create parts with accurate geometry, and use CAM software to generate G‑code.
Key Responsibilities – Machine Operations and Setup- Machine operations and set up of fixtures and tools.
- Proficiency with Solid Works.
- Reading, interpreting, and following blueprints.
- Measurement and gauge use, calipers, etc.
- Maintaining close tolerances (±0.001).
- Knowledge of shop mathematics and GD&T.
- Recognizing early signs of tool wear and failure.
- Utilizing CAD and CAM to create G and M code for 3‑axis mill.
- Reading, writing, and understanding English.
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance with minimal instruction.
- Basic knowledge of composite and plastic bonding agents.
- Health‑hazard awareness and proper mitigation (PPE, decontamination, housekeeping).
- Welding: TIG and other methods; assemble, install, and repair metal products.
- Determine project requirements from drawings or instructions.
- Layout, measure, mark dimensions and reference lines.
- Fabricate and alter parts at construction sites using various tools.
- Move completed units into position for installation and anchor.
- Transport prefabricated parts to construction sites.
- Drill and punch holes for screws, bolts, rivets.
- Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, or smooth seams or joints.
- Work evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Travel out of state occasionally.
- Pass fit for duty, drug test, and background check.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Experience fabricating maritime parts.
- Working knowledge of shop processes and machines (lap, grinding, waterjet, CNC, plasma, welding).
- Bachelor’s degree relevant to industry.
- Industry certifications.
- Experience with titanium.
- Welding proficiency in G‑Taw, G‑Maw, and S‑Maw.
- Design and fabricate weldments conforming to industry tolerances.
- Knowledge of hydraulics.
- Active DoW secret clearance.

Ancillary RequirementsMinimum of 2 years of experience as a machinist/fabricator.
Security ClearanceMust be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; current successful background investigation is a plus.
TravelOccasional travel possible.
