Role Description

The Director of Development is a full-time, on-site role based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, responsible for leading and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to support The Salvation Army's programs and services. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing annual and planned giving initiatives, cultivating and stewarding individual, corporate, and foundation donors, and overseeing philanthropic campaigns and events. This role leads the development team, sets measurable goals, and monitors progress to ensure sustainable revenue growth.

The Director of Development collaborates closely with leadership to align fundraising priorities with organizational needs, prepares and manages development budgets, and ensures accurate reporting and compliance with organizational and legal standards. The position also involves representing The Salvation Army in the community, building strategic partnerships, and communicating the mission and impact to diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in fundraising, philanthropy, and donor relations, including experience securing major gifts and building long-term donor engagement.
  • Proficiency in annual giving programs and campaigns, with the ability to plan, execute, and evaluate multi-channel appeals and stewardship efforts.
  • Experience in planned giving strategies, including cultivating and managing bequests, charitable trusts, and other legacy giving vehicles.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills, with the ability to develop, oversee, and report on development department budgets and revenue forecasts.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, including supervising staff, setting goals, and fostering a collaborative, mission-focused environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling fundraising materials and present to internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, community partners, volunteers, and organizational leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field; advanced degree or CFRE certification is a plus.
