Position: NICU Flight Nurse Full Time
REVA is one of the largest fixed wing air ambulance operators globally and provides medical transport services on 24/7/365 continuous basis. Responsibilities of the Flight Nurse include evaluation, coordination, and delivery of medical care provided to patients during all phases of transport. Must be familiar with scope of practice of the transport team and the State rules and regulations in which the transport team operates.

Works with the other transport team members to coordinate care of the patient during transport; once called, readily available/arrive at specified location, within 30 minutes before wheels.

The flight nurse is responsible for completing the quarterly and annual requirements to maintain active flight status to include: completion of intubations quarterly, attendance at staff meetings, and annual: airway course, mock codes, annual online training program, safety and infection control, aircraft / personnel security briefing, equipment and supplies competency / currency validation, medical screening update, wellness form, EMS Rules and Regulations, and Haz-mat recognition and response.

The NICU Flight Nurse is responsible for providing advanced neonatal critical care during air and ground medical transports. Working as part of a specialized transport team, the NICU Flight Nurse safely assesses, stabilizes, and transports critically ill and premature neonates while delivering exceptional patient care in a dynamic aviation environment. This role requires expert clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform independently under stressful conditions while maintaining the highest standards of safety and patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide comprehensive neonatal critical care during fixed-wing and ground transports.

Perform advanced neonatal assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans.

Stabilize critically ill and premature infants prior to and during transport.

Administer medications, blood products, and IV fluids in accordance with protocols and physician direction.

Operate and troubleshoot specialized neonatal transport equipment including:

Transport incubators

Mechanical ventilators

High-frequency ventilators (when applicable)
CPAP systems

Cardiac monitors

Infusion pumps

Nitric oxide delivery systems (if applicable)
Perform neonatal airway management including endotracheal tube monitoring and assistance with advanced airway procedures.

Monitor ventilated neonates and make ventilator adjustments per protocol.

Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, EMS personnel, and referring/receiving facilities.

Provide family-centered care and communicate effectively with parents and caregivers.

Complete accurate electronic patient care documentation.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and case reviews.

Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, CAMTS standards, company policies, and clinical protocols.

Participate in continuing education, competency assessments, simulation training, and mandatory flight safety programs.

Maintain readiness of aircraft medical equipment and supplies.

Assist with inventory management and equipment inspections.

Experience

Required:

Minimum 5 years of recent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level III or Level IV NICU) experience.

Minimum 3 years of high-acuity neonatal critical care experience.

Highly Preferred:

Adult ICU, Emergency Department, or Critical Care Transport experience caring for adult patient populations.

Preferred:

Previous neonatal transport or flight experience.

Experience with neonatal ECMO transports preferred.

Experience with high-frequency ventilation.

Experience with neonatal surgical transports.

Required Certifications Current BLSNeonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
STABLE Program Certification Advanced Fetal Monitoring (preferred)
Transport Professional Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) preferred

Certified Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse (RNC-NIC) preferred

Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) preferred

Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) preferred

Physical Requirements:

Work in confined aircraft environments.

Lift, push, and pull.

Stand, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.

Tolerate prolonged flights and varying weather conditions.

Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments.
