Position SummaryResponsible for the delivery of quality nursing care for all patients on the in‑patient units. Oversees all unit activities including admissions, discharges, crisis intervention, seclusion and restraints, and Baker Act. Oversees scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and proper break/meal times. Accountable for the implementation of a collaborative care plan as prescribed by the physician(s) and treatment team. Provide leadership in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
Provide medical management and assessment of patients. Ensure environmental safety. Work with the treatment team to provide a consistently therapeutic milieu. Oversee Mental Health Techs, administer medication and provide medication for the nursing staff when the pharmacy is closed. Coordinate all medical codes and ensures they are carried out appropriately and safely.
- Supervise and complete nursing assessment of all admissions including risk assessments (SAO, elopement, assault, suicide); educational needs, and medication review. Complete all required nursing documents within established timeframe.
- Supervise nursing and educate when applicable to identify patient needs, problems, capabilities or limitations supported by the recorded assessment data with emphasis on biophysical and psychosocial needs.
- Actively participate in treatment team decisions, collect and include data in care plan updates, assess patient needs, design and implement programs, and document and evaluate patient responses.
- Ensure proper documentation of nursing care and treatment progression through timely and accurate chart entries and nursing care plan updates.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care and the milieu.
- Ensure that medication and treatment are administered as prescribed and that documentation reflects the care provided.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to RN and MHT staff; model age, growth, and developmentally appropriate therapeutic communication in all interactions.
- Oversee and conduct rounds. Provide and direct milieu management. Actively assist therapists, keeping safety foremost.
- Assess, direct, and intervene in crisis situations. Recognize escalation and take preventive steps to reduce incidence of restraint and seclusion.
- Supervise RN staff to document interventions in the Master Treatment Plan and throughout progress notes.
- Oversee, provide, and document patient and family education.
- Initiate and account for Special Treatment Procedures.
- Follow through with all facility and statutory requirements.
- Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Actively support the mission, philosophy, and goals for the hospital and treatment team(s). Communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.
- Assure the patient’s rights are protected, and act to prevent, identify, and report abuse.
- Adhere to facility philosophy, Code of Ethics, Standards of Conduct, Performance Improvement, and corresponding policies and procedures.
- Maintain general employee expectations.
- 5 years RN experience with 2 years in behavioral health preferred.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Florida.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time‑management skills and the ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects at once.
