An OR Travel Nurse assists physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients, including pre‑ and post‑surgery care and education. The nurse may work as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or RN first assistant.

• Provide basic bedside care.
• Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication; report any adverse reactions to treatment.
• Act as the communication liaison between patients’ family members and the operating team.
• Ensure that the correct procedure(s) is being performed on the correct patient.
• Initiate patient education plans as prescribed by the physician; teach patients and families how to manage medication and home‑care needs.
• Stand and walk for long periods; bend, lean, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs routinely (up to 50 lbs when handling patients).

• Respond to patient comfort and safety needs.
• Accurately care for and handle specimens.
• Monitor equipment used during surgery.
• Track inventory of surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure.

• Select and handle surgical instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Track inventory of surgical items pre‑ and post‑procedure.

• Assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care.
• Help control bleeding.
• Suture patients following surgery.

• ACLS certification.
• BLS certification.
• NIH certification.
• Minimum 3 years of recent acute‑care experience as a circulating or scrub nurse, and/or RN first assistant.
• Additional certifications may be required before starting the assignment.
