Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (BARC - Detox - Overnight Shift)

Licensed Practical Nurse Position

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the Licensed Practical Nurse position with the Human Services Department - Broward Addiction Recovery Center. The Human Services Department is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse that will provide comprehensive patient assessment, medical screening, medication administration, and ongoing monitoring throughout treatment. They also supports care coordination, documentation, quality assurance activities, and collaboration with internal and external healthcare providers to ensure safe and effective patient care within a County addiction and substance-abuse treatment environment.

Salary Range for this position is $56,500 to $77,000 General Description
• Performs specialized licensed practical nursing work for Broward County's substance abuse program.
• Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
• Requires completion of course work from an accredited practical nursing education program.
• Requires two (2) years' experience as a licensed practical nurse, including six (6) months experience in substance abuse and/or behavioral health nursing experience.

Special Requirements
• This position is an overnight shift: 11pm - 7:30am; 5 days per week, includes alternating weekends and subject to change based on business needs. Special Certifications and Licenses
• Licensed as a practical nurse by the State of Florida and current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification at time of application.
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License. Preferences
• Associates, Bachelors or Masters Degree in Nursing or Related Health Science
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Substance Abuse/Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Nursing Certification
• One (1) or more years experience with Medication Addiction Treatment (MAT) including injectables
• Bilingual

Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
• Assesses and evaluates patients on admission and throughout treatment stay; obtains medical and/or substance abuse and psychiatric history and elicits reason for seeking treatment.
• Performs physical assessment including vital signs and observation of physical/mental status; performs medical, psychiatric and/or substance abuse screenings.
• Renders practical nursing and health support services to program patients; provides personal care assistance to service patients as needed; monitors client behavior and general health; reports and records status.
• Works from the orders directed by a physician; administers medications and records them on the charts.
• Assesses and evaluates patients in order to recommend to a clinical superior, a Registered Nurse or Medical Director, of any concerns that may warrant further medical and/or psychiatric intervention or referral to other health care facilities.
• Follows agency procedures for control, storage and administration of medications and for ordering of medical supplies; orders medications and transcribes doctors orders.
• Interfaces with other internal and external health care providers for coordination of care.
• Prepares nursing treatment plans and participates in discharge/aftercare planning with nursing/clinical staff.
• Performs related work as assigned. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
1. Administer prescribed medications via ordered route (by mouth, subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular, etc.) while providing appropriate information and education regarding medication being administered. 2. Use Automated Dispensing machines and work collaboratively with pharmacy staff.
3. Inventory medications brought in by clients and secure medications or complete medication destruction according to facility policy.
4. Independently navigate Electronic Health Record System while performing essential nursing documentation.
