This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.
POSITION
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is an OPS Registered Nurse that serves as a Registered Nurse Specialist that will provide advanced comprehensive public health nursing within the School Health Services Program at the Florida Department of Health in Broward County. This position reports to the School Health Program Manager and works closely with the Assistant Director of Community Health and the Executive Community Health Nursing Director.
Utilizing the public health nursing process, the Registered Nurse Specialist will be required to independently conduct, coordinate, and monitor for quality control and assurance, and provide oversight and coordination of school health services for assigned schools, five days a week to promote student health, identify students with chronic health conditions, and assure compliance with local, state, and contractual requirements.
The Registered Nurse Specialist, under the supervision of the School Health Program Manager, will train and oversee nursing staff to ensure health appraisals, nursing assessments, evaluations, and meeting the healthcare needs of students by consultation, referral, and partnering with medical providers, parents/guardians, and school health personnel, regarding student’s health needs are provided by school health nurses.
This position is responsible for ensuring that school health nurses provide case management including follow-up on referrals and collaboration with community resources/partners as needed. Assists with the development of student/family focused care plans for students identified with chronic health conditions. Reviews and monitors student records to assure that child specific trainings are completed according to statutory requirements.
Works closely with the School Health Program Manager to review and update school health policies and procedures, including but not limited to school health nursing protocols and standard care plans. Responsible for developing training materials and conducting training workshops for school health nurses and school staff.
The Registered Nurse Specialist will conduct regular site visits to contracted schools, completing the student health record review sheet and health room review sheet at each location. Responsible for providing technical assistance to school health nurses and conduct timely follow-up, as needed, to ensure compliance.
Works closely with the school Health Program Manager to develop and facilitate training programs complete with skills check for all nursing staff.
Responsible for serving on committees and taskforces to represent the Florida Department of Health in Broward County.
