Recreation Coordinator - Seasonal at Lafayette Park

We are seeking qualified candidates for a Seasonal Recreation Coordinator to support the Summer Recreation program in our six neighborhood parks.

Position Overview

This position plays a vital role in the Summer Recreation program in our six (6) Neighborhood Parks located in the Broward Municipal Services District:
Boulevard Gardens Community Center, Franklin Park, Lafayette Hart Park, Reverend Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park, Roosevelt Gardens Park, and Sunview Park. The program offers free lunch and snack, guest speakers, life skills, nutrition, arts & crafts, sports, teen leagues, SPARK physical activity, STEM, special events, fishing, field trips, Fourth Annual Color Wars, hygiene, personal improvement, swim safety (ages 6‑8), New Starz Talent Showcase, and more.

Based on operational needs, this position may require work at one or more of the following parks:
Sunview Park, Roosevelt Gardens Park, Franklin Park, Lafayette Hart Park, Boulevard Gardens Park, Delevoe Park.

Scope of Work
  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing recreation and leisure programs and special events for various population groups.
  • Plan and implement equipment setup for special events.
  • Maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, providing customer service and handling patron issues.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, ensuring upkeep of recreation areas.
  • Act as lead worker in the absence of the supervisor at assigned programs/events.
  • Assign opening and closing tasks to subordinate staff/volunteers.
  • Perform clerical duties: create and maintain participant and volunteer files, answer phones, make reservations, handle correspondence.
  • Maintain operational reports related to program schedules, participation, and evaluations.
  • Develop, implement, and assist with training of other staff/volunteers.
  • Assist with inventory management, budgeting, and obtaining quotes for program materials.
  • Provide community outreach, build relationships, and promote activities through social media, printed materials, events, and meetings.
  • May assist with cash handling responsibilities.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
Work Environment

Physical Demands:
Light work involving walking or standing most of the time, with the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force regularly.

Unavoidable Hazards:
Routine exposure to extreme noise levels and animals/wildlife.

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. One year of relevant experience may substitute for one year of required education. At least six (6) months of experience in recreation, athletics, or a closely related field is required.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License required for the duration of appointment.

Preferences

Availability to work from 06/08/2026 to 07/31/2026 with variable hours between 8 AM‑6 PM, Monday through Friday.
