Business Development Manager At Port Everglades
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for a Business Development Manager at Port Everglades. Performs professional and strategic business development work for Port Everglades by promoting Port services, strengthening relationships with cargo, logistics, trade, maritime, and supply chain stakeholders, and identifying opportunities to grow and retain business activity. Works independently, under administrative supervision, developing and implementing business development programs, customer engagement activities, market research, outreach initiatives, and promotional strategies within organizational policies.
This position reports major activities to executive-level administrators through meetings, briefings, reports, and presentations.
Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, marketing, international business, logistics, supply chain management, transportation, economics, or a closely related field. (One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.) Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in maritime cargo, port, logistics, transportation, supply chain, international trade, or related business development, sales, marketing, account management, or customer relationship management.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment. Ability to secure and maintain a valid Port Security Identification Badge for the duration of employment.
Preferences:
Bilingual – written/verbal (Spanish) Professional Port Manager (PPM) Certification Accredited Maritime Port Executive (AMPE) Certification 3+ years' experience developing or managing relationships with cargo and maritime customers 1+ years' representing an organization at national or international industry conferences and trade shows 1+ years' cargo market research, trade-lane analysis, forecasting, or competitive port analysis using tools such as PIERS, Blue Water, Datamyne, US Census, etc.
Develops and implements strategic cargo business development initiatives to expand Port Everglades' market share in key trade lanes and attract new cargo customers. Identifies opportunities with shipping lines, freight forwarders, NVOCCs, terminal operators, beneficial cargo owners (BCOs), and logistics partners, and formulates strategies to increase cargo volumes and retain existing business. Provides leadership in customer engagement and account management, serving as a primary point of contact for cargo customers and maritime stakeholders.
Builds and strengthens relationships through regular outreach, site visits, business reviews, and coordinated problem-solving with internal Port divisions. Builds and maintains partnerships with trade associations and industry groups, including maritime, logistics, import/export, supply chain, and manufacturing organizations. Develops collaborative programs to enhance the Port's visibility and reputation. Organizes and executes outreach initiatives such as port tours, customer engagement events, industry round tables, and informational briefings for trade partners.
Represents Port Everglades at national and international maritime, logistics, and cargo industry conferences and trade shows. Promotes Port services, meets with prospective clients, conducts business development appointments, and prepares post-event reports summarizing outcomes, contacts, and new opportunities. This position requires extensive domestic and international travel. Supports coordination of cargo-related customer visits, ensuring stakeholders receive accurate information on terminal operations, infrastructure, capabilities, and development projects.
Works to facilitate seamless cross-departmental support. Prepares and delivers formal briefings, reports, and presentations to executive-level administrators on market conditions, customer activity, business development initiatives, and competitive positioning. Assists with special projects, research assignments, and cross-departmental initiatives related to cargo business development, infrastructure planning, industry partnerships, and policy analysis. Conducts market intelligence and competitive analysis on regional and global cargo trends, including carrier service changes, port performance metrics, infrastructure developments, and economic indicators.
Prepares reports, forecasts, presentations, and recommendations for executive leadership. Performs related work as assigned.
