Position Overview

Current vacancy for Forensic Scientist III in the Crime Lab's Latent Print Unit. Candidates meeting Forensic Scientist II qualifications may also be considered if the position remains unfilled.

• United States citizen at the time of application.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in natural or physical sciences, forensic science, criminalistics, or a closely related field;
  Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum three (3) years at the Forensic Scientist II level or five (5) years of latent print examination experience with exposure to administrative aspects.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered if clearly demonstrated.
• Certification by the governing board of the forensic discipline (e.g., International Association for Identification).
• Successful completion of the ANAB Internal Auditor Training Course, ANAB Assessor Training Course for Testing Laboratories, or equivalent.
• Completion of OSAC or NIST equivalent science coursework including General Biology and Advanced Latent Print courses.

• Minimum two (2) years in latent print examination, in‑house training as Forensic Scientist I, or equivalent.
• All other qualifications as listed above.

• Examine, analyze, compare, and evaluate latent print evidence recovered from crime scenes.
• Conduct preliminary testing and prepare evidence for analysis in assigned areas.
• Participate in preparing unit equipment and materials used for testing.
• Examine collected materials to ensure adherence to sample collection and identification procedures.
• Perform laboratory examinations using applicable procedures and document results.
• Generate data, review findings, compile reports, and provide judicial testimony as required.
• Conduct administrative and technical review of casework.
• Maintain equipment, perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
• Stay current with field developments through training, workshops, and literature.
• Provide training, guidance, and assistance to other unit personnel.
• Assist with internal audits and support the Crime Lab Director as needed.

• Perform examination, analysis, comparison, and evaluation of latent print evidence.
• Conduct preliminary testing and prepare evidence for analysis.
• Assist in preparing unit equipment and materials.
• Examine materials for adherence to procedures.
• Perform laboratory examinations with assigned procedures and document outcomes.
• Generate data, review findings, compile reports, and testify when required.
• Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of specialized equipment.
• Remain current with field developments through ongoing training.
• Assist in training and guidance for unit personnel.
• Perform related duties as directed.
