Summer Laboratory Research Aide - Temporary

Under direct supervision of a Principal Investigator or designee, observe and support basic research activities, assist scientists in laboratories, set up and maintain laboratory instruments, equipment, and materials, make observations, and record results.

• Assist in the conduct of research, including the collection of information and samples.
• Assist in the performance of tests using routine and special techniques and methods.
• Keep logs of work‑related activities.
• Use computers and computer‑interfaced equipment to perform work duties.
• Provide basic assistance to researchers in recording data.
• Clean, maintain, and prepare supplies and work areas.
• Set up, adjust, calibrate, and clean laboratory equipment.
• Assist in report writing and/or perform library research.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

• Near vision: must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet).
• Speech clarity: must speak clearly so others can understand you.
• Speech recognition: must identify and understand another person's speech.
• May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing while performing job duties.
• May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment or supplies, including pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

• English language – knowledge of structure, content, spelling, and grammar.
• Mathematics – knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and their applications.

• Reading comprehension – proficient understanding of written sentences and paragraphs.
• Active listening – give full attention, take time to understand points, ask questions, and avoid interruptions.
• Speaking – proficient skills in conveying information effectively.

• Information ordering – ability to arrange things or actions in a rule‑based order.
