Job Description

J.S. Held is seeking a motivated Field Technician to support our Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Health & Safety practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys hands‑on fieldwork and is interested in developing expertise in industrial hygiene, environmental assessments, and occupational health and safety.

The Field Technician will assist with site inspections, environmental sampling, exposure monitoring, data collection, and project support activities across commercial, industrial, healthcare, institutional, and residential environments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections and assessments under the direction of Project Managers and Industrial Hygienists.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring, including:
    • Indoor air quality testing
    • Asbestos inspections and sampling
    • Lead‑based paint inspections and sampling
    • Mold and moisture investigations
    • Noise monitoring
    • Occupational exposure monitoring
  • Collect and document field data using company-approved procedures and equipment.
  • Prepare field notes, photographs, chain‑of‑custody forms, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate laboratory sample submissions and tracking of analytical results.
  • Assist with moisture mapping, thermal imaging surveys, and property condition assessments.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and transport field equipment and sampling instruments.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and utilise required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Support emergency response, property damage, and environmental investigation projects when required.
  • Travel locally and occasionally throughout Florida to support client projects.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Biology, Chemistry, Public Health, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 0-3 years of experience in environmental consulting, industrial hygiene, environmental health & safety, construction materials testing, restoration, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately collect, document, and manage field data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments while collaborating effectively with project teams.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally to project sites as needed.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, and work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.

Preferred

  • Prior experience conducting environmental sampling, industrial hygiene monitoring, asbestos inspections, lead assessments, mold investigations, or indoor air quality testing.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety Training.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Florida licenses or certifications related to asbestos, lead, mold, or environmental inspections.
  • Experience with moisture mapping, thermal imaging, or environmental monitoring equipment.
