Position: PLUMBER (AVIATION)

The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale‑Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and the North Perry Airport (HWO) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of PLUMBER.

General Description

Performs a variety of journeyman level plumbing and related maintenance and repair work. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires two (2) years in maintenance plumbing or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.

Scope of Work Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect public restrooms, replace broken fixtures, valves, pumps, controllers, irrigation heads to restore function.
  • Troubleshoot non-working fixtures, valves, irrigation systems, lift station pumps to identify problem and necessary repair.
  • Inspect irrigation systems and lift stations to ensure proper operation, repair plumbing fixtures, valves, lift stations, pumps, and irrigation components to minimize replacement costs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on waste system lines, lift stations, and irrigation systems.
  • Cut openings in walls for pipes; bend pipes over blocks by hand; cut, ream, and thread pipe; dig trenches or holes with necessary equipment; install, maintain, and repair water circulation and irrigation systems, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, sewers, vents, and other sanitary fixtures.
  • Install and maintain PVC pipe systems, open clogged drains, replace washers on leaky faucets, test for leaks by filling pipe with water under pressure and checking with a gauge for fall pressure.
  • Install pipe and hose on spray trucks and other specially designed equipment and apparatus.
  • Repair, replace, and check high and low pressure steam boilers; blow down and flush boilers; check all safety devices and controls, replace and repair when needed; flush and clean boilers, storage and return tanks, hot water heaters, and similar apparatus.
  • Make estimates of time and materials; supervise the work of helpers; interact with the public to answer questions, identify their service needs, or locate missing materials.
