POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

Moss’Crane Safety Specialist/Inspector is responsible for ensuring all crane operations, lifting equipment, and rigging activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, ANSI standards, and manufacturer requirements. This role conducts inspections, audits lifting operations, provides technical guidance and supports project teams in planning and executing critical lifts.

The Crane Safety Specialist/Inspector serves as the subject matter expert for crane safety, operational compliance, equipment inspections, and lift planning across assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Crane Inspections & Compliance
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled inspections of cranes, hoists, rigging equipment, and lifting accessories
  • Conduct pre-operational, frequent, and periodic inspections in accordance with OSHA, ANSI, and manufacturer standards
  • Conduct routine, periodic, and annual inspections of mobile cranes, overhead cranes, tower cranes, hoist, rigging gear, and lifting devices
  • Review crane certification documentation and verify inspection records are current
  • Ensure cranes are properly maintained and removed from service when unsafe conditions exist
  • Document inspection findings and provide corrective action recommendations to the field team
  • Verify that repairs are completed correctly and re-inspect equipment as needed
  • Provide technical guidance on crane safety, rigging practices, and equipment operation
  • Participate in incident investigations involving lifting equipment when required
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including photos, measurements, and compliance notes
Lift Planning & Operations
  • Review and ensure execution of all critical lift plans
  • Verify crane setup, load charts, ground conditions, outrigger placement, and swing radius protection
  • Evaluate lift calculations, load weights, crane capacities, and operating limitations
  • Monitor crane operations to ensure safe lifting practices
  • Assist project teams with planning complex lifts
Safety Oversight
  • Conduct field audits and inspections of crane and rigging operations.
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • OSHA 1926 Subpart CC
    • ASME B30 Standards
    • Company crane and rigging procedures
  • Identify unsafe conditions and stop work when necessary
  • Investigate crane-related incidents and near misses
Develop Corrective Action Plans
  • Provide crane safety training to project teams
  • Mentor operators, riggers, signal persons, and site supervision
  • Assist with qualification verification for crane operators and rigging personnel
  • Conduct toolbox talks related to lifting operations
  • Maintain crane inspection logs and compliance documentation
  • Prepare inspection reports and audit summaries
  • Track deficiencies and corrective action completion
  • Support regulatory audits and internal compliance reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 5–10 years of crane operations, inspection, or heavy lifting experience
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • OSHA 1926 Subpart CC
    • ASME B30 standards
    • Crane load charts
    • Rigging and signaling practices
  • Experience with mobile cranes, tower cranes, crawler cranes, and hoisting systems
  • Ability to interpret engineering lift drawings and technical documents
  • Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
  • Professional customer‑facing communication skills
  • Strong attention to details, documentation, and follow‑through
Preferred Certifications
  • NCCCO Crane Inspector Certification
  • NCCCO Crane Operator Certification
  • Qualified Rigger / Signal Person Certification
  • OSHA 30‑Hour Construction
  • Certified Lift Director
  • First Aid / CPR
