Position: Locksmith (FMD)

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Locksmith – Facilities Management Division.

NOTE:

This Announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received and may close at any time.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install, repair, and maintain all types of locks and security systems, including electronic access control locking systems.
  • Install, repair, and maintain locking mechanisms for buildings, vehicles, and high‑level security facilities.
  • Respond to emergency lockouts and emergency work orders.
  • Maintain Master Key systems and records.
  • Cut and duplicate keys, and re‑key locks.
  • Use computerized maintenance management software to document statuses of maintenance work orders.
SECURITY CLEARANCE

In accordance with Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) / Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) security policies, the FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Access Security Policy requires that all criminal justice agencies have documentation of enhanced background screening on file for all personnel who may conduct any type of unescorted work or duties within any location that Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is housed.

Therefore, this Locksmth position may require state of residency and a Level 2 Background Screening.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs skilled work at the journey level in the installation and repair of locks and making keys.

Works under close general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of the locksmith trade or closely related experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver’s License for the duration of appointment.

PREFERENCES
  • Associate’s degree or Vocational school certification
  • Certified Master Locksmith
  • Locksmith Online Training Course Certification
  • Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) membership
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management system
  • At least two years experience with Schlage restricted keyway
  • At least two years experience creating master key systems
  • At least two years of experience with MIWA or similar locking systems
  • Certified Professional Locksmith
  • Certified Registered Locksmith
