This Carpenter position will work on a team with other carpenters, electricians, and maintenance staff completing major repairs and some construction projects throughout our parks system.
General Description Performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of wooden articles, modern construction and repair materials, equipment, and structures. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires two (2) years experience in construction and/or maintenance carpentry or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License with authority to drive a county vehicle for duration of appointment.
Preferences
- Graduation from an accredited Finish Carpentry Vocational School
- Certified Welder
- CDL A or B with Air Brake Endorsement
- OSHA Safety Certificate (General, Construction)
- At least three years of experience reading and building top specifications off of blue prints or technical drawings
- At least three years working with the Florida Building Code and complying with its standards and regulations
- Two years of experience in drafting software
- Mechanical Journey Level/Certificate of Competency
- Ability to speak foreign language (Spanish, French/Creole)
All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character.
Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
- Installs partitions, whiteboards, chalkboards, posters, paintings, plaques, shelving. Performs general office upkeep including redesign, counter tops, frosting windows, etc.
- Demos, repairs, and installs wood, metal stud, block, concrete, stucco, drywall, Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP), finishes and prepares for paint.
- Performs structural repair and redesign.
- Repairs and assembles large office desks, furniture, cabinets, chairs, cubicles, computer trays and shelves. Loads, transports, and unloads furniture as needed.
- Performs locksmith duties by cutting keys, rekeying locks and repairing and installing all door hardware to function properly and safely.
- Repairs and installs roofing, including patching and fixing leaks.
- Installs, repairs and finishes ceilings, interior drywall, acoustical tile grids and tiles.
- Maintains structures and buildings to ensure a safe environment for the public.
- Repairs, forms, places, and finishes concrete including mixing up to 80lb bag goods and fills cracks in sidewalk expansion joints.
- Performs upkeep and repair of all previously installed signage.
- Repairs or makes adjustments to ticket counters, vendor areas, break rooms, offices, and Rental Center.
