About the Role:

The ITS Signal Technician plays a critical role in the construction and maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) by installing, testing, and maintaining traffic signal equipment and related infrastructure. This position ensures that traffic signals and communication devices operate efficiently and safely to support traffic flow and public safety. This role requires working closely with project managers, engineers, and other construction personnel to interpret technical plans and specifications accurately.

The ITS Signal Installer is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving issues with signal systems to minimize downtime and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. Ultimately, this position contributes to the enhancement of transportation infrastructure through precise and reliable installation and maintenance of ITS components.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience in electrical or signal installation work, preferably in traffic signal or ITS systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical wiring, circuitry, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in traffic signal installation or ITS technology.
  • Experience with fiber optic cable splicing and communication network installation.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Ability to operate specialized testing equipment for signal systems.
  • Previous experience working on public infrastructure or government projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain traffic signal controllers, detectors, and communication devices according to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Interpret and follow electrical and construction blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to ensure accurate installation.
  • Perform routine inspections and testing of signal equipment to verify proper operation and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other construction team members to coordinate installation schedules and resolve technical issues.
  • Document installation activities, maintenance work, and any system malfunctions or repairs for project records and reporting purposes.
Skills:

The ITS Signal Installer uses technical skills daily to interpret complex electrical schematics and blueprints, ensuring precise installation of signal equipment. Strong troubleshooting abilities are essential for diagnosing and resolving system malfunctions quickly to maintain traffic safety and flow. Communication skills facilitate effective collaboration with engineers and project teams to align installation activities with project goals. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are critical when working with electrical components and in construction environments.
