The City of Sunrise Utilities Department maintains a 24/7 operation. This is advanced skilled electronic/electrical work in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment throughout the entire utility system and within the water, wastewater and reuse service area. An employee in this class is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical high and low voltage equipment found in water, wastewater, and reuse facilities.

Electronic pneumatic, mechanical and electrical types of metering, control and recording equipment used in all of the treatment plants. Work is performed in accordance with standard practices of the electrical and electronic trades and requires knowledge of the mechanical and operational aspects of equipment monitored through instrumentation. Incumbents must use special electrical tools such as voltmeters, ammeters and oscilloscopes. Assignments are made either orally, through written work orders, or through a CMMS and may be accompanied by diagrams, sketches, or engineering plans.

Supervision and guidance may be exercised over subordinate skilled and/or unskilled employees. Technical supervision is received from a superior who assists with unusual or difficult problems and evaluates work for satisfactory functioning or treatment plant instruments and or electrical equipment.

Essential Job Functions

• Installs, alters, repairs, and maintains special metering, control and recording instrumentation equipment utilized in treatment plant processes, water pumping stations and distribution systems, and sewer lift stations.
• Inspects and diagnoses technical instrument problems; locates and adjusts defects in instruments.
• Inspects, repairs, and troubleshoots electrical systems.
• Inspects, replaces, and troubleshoots PCM, VFD's, soft starts, and other plant process control equipment and telemetry.
• Uses special electric and electronic tools and equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, insulation testing meters, industrial analyzers and oscilloscopes.
• Maintains records of time and materials used in installing and repairing instrumentation and maintains repair history of metering, control and recording equipment.
• Requisition s supplies and materials necessary for instrument repair.
• Installs, alters, repairs and maintains both high and low voltage motors, fixed and portable generators, switch gear, motor controllers, transformers, wiring systems, electronic components and other related equipment.
• Calibrates, repairs, or replaces transducers in lift station and plant environments.
• Removes, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces motors and pump throughout the utility system.
• Draws diagrams and schematics of installations performed.
• Troubleshoots lighting systems.
• Participates in after-hour on-call rotations.
• Contributes during emergencies that extend beyond regular shifts.
