Position Scope & Organizational Impact

The Crane Safety Specialist serves as the subject matter expert for crane safety, operational compliance, equipment inspections, and lift planning across assigned projects.

This role ensures all crane operations, hoisting equipment, and rigging activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, ASME/ANSI standards, and manufacturer specifications. Working directly in the field, the Specialist conducts detailed inspections, audits high-risk lifts, provides technical leadership, and collaborates with project teams to plan and execute critical lifting operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform Rigorous Inspections on all relevant equipment
  • Maintain Operational Authority including issuing stop-work directives and removal of equipment from service
  • Document detailed inspection findings, recommend corrective actions, and conduct re-inspections to verify proper repairs.
  • Serve as a field resource for rigging and lifting practices and participate in investigations for crane-related incidents or near-misses.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve complex and critical lift plans
  • Ensure strict site compliance with OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, ASME B30 standards, and internal corporate safety policies.
  • Mentor and coach operators, riggers, signal persons, and site supervisors.
Candidate Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in crane operations, heavy lifting, or crane inspection within commercial/industrial construction.
  • Deep understanding of OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, ASME B30 standards, load chart interpretation, ground bearing pressures, and engineering lift drawings.
  • Proven expertise across mobile, crawler, tower, and overhead hoisting systems.
Preferred Certifications
  • NCCCO Certified Crane Inspector
  • NCCCO Certified Crane Operator
  • Certified Lift Director (CLD)
  • Qualified Rigger / Signal person Certification
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction
  • First Aid / CPR / AED
