REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Student Worker (New Gen Leaders).

This Job Announcement will remain open until a sufficient number of applications are received.

This position may require working at any of the Broward County Parks locations.

General Description

New Gen Leaders Program:
This program runs 12 months and provides participants with entry-level, part-time paid positions that will get them started on the road to success. The principal goal of the program is to provide an alternate to youth violence and crime; provide a structured environment to at risk youth; and opportunities to learn life skills and develop leadership attributes through education and hands-on training.

These leaders of tomorrow will receive on-site practical work experience and take part in enrichment classes that focus on topics such as budgeting, resume writing, communication, stress management, healthy relationships, goal setting, financial literacy, and making positive choices.

While gaining personal growth and skills, participants will be trained and assigned to work in different areas of the Parks and Recreation Division such as Information Technology, Administration, Summer Camp, Front-Desk Operations, Aquatics, Concessions, Security, Safety, Special Populations, Emergency Management, Environmental, and other areas.

The program will be offered at Roosevelt Gardens Park.

Performs various duties at a specific location in Broward County.

Works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in a state licensed school, college, or university and must be at least 16 years of age and must demonstrate student status for the duration of the appointment.

None.

Preferences

Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Additional Information

All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, finger printing, drug testing, and clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character ().

SCOPE OF WORK Duties and Responsibilities

Participates in a series of training, activities and field trips to learn different skills for future job.
Participates in community service event to enhance neighborhoods and provide services to the neighbors.
Demonstrates interest in learning about leadership development.
Performs a variety of specialized office support work involving the use of a personal computer, a variety of software applications, and other office equipment.
Interacts with the public, County staff, program participants, or vendors in order to obtain goods or services, assist in using agency or postal delivery service, equipment, programs, and/or facilities, collect fees, answer questions, identify service needs or locate missing materials.
Prepares a variety of correspondence, notifications, forms, meeting minutes, and related documents in order to communicate information to staff and/or the public; processes requests for agency materials/information received by phone, fax, email, or in person in order to provide patrons with requested materials/information.
Performs a variety of facility maintenance work in order to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repairs/replacement costs, and/or extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.
Clean offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, etc. in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.
