The State of Florida Driver Licenses Examiner position is a professional, entry-level position responsible for providing services to the public, including determining and verifying driver eligibility and compliance, administering driving tests, issuing driver licenses, temporary licenses, and identification cards, and collecting payment from customers for goods and services. This is accomplished by administering vision, written, and road tests to driver license applicants;

determination of qualifications; and the collection and processing of driver licenses fees.

Skill in providing customer service to diverse cliental in a tactful, courteous, and non-judgmental manner. Ability to understand, interpret and apply state motor vehicle laws and statutes, and DHSMV operations, policies, and procedures. Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Skill in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to handle cash and make correct change. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.

Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with others. Skill in operating a personal computer and performing data entry. Knowledge of procedures for operating motor vehicles, including cars and trucks. Ability to make sound, well-informed and objective decisions and assist in resolving problems. Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.

Multi-lingual (fluent in speaking, reading, and / or writing a foreign language other than English). At least one year of full-time work experience which involved customer contact or at least one year of full-time work experience in a driver license/motor vehicle program area or Tax Collector's office. Work experience in entering data, cash handling, collecting payments or operating a register. Work experience reviewing/verifying information or data.

Occasional overtime is required. In accordance with Florida Statute 322, selected applicant must possess a valid Class E or higher driver's license; not learner's license and be at least 21 years of age. Selected applicants must have no cancellations, suspensions, or revocations of the driving privilege for a minimum of three (3) years prior to employment and must also maintain a driving record with no more than three (3) chargeable motor vehicle crash or any violation defined in Chapter 316, Florida Statutes during any consecutive (3) year period of employment.
