Job Title:

Residence Life Coordinator

The Residence Life Coordinator is a twelve‑month full‑time position located on the West Burlington campus. The coordinator oversees operations of the Southeast Community College Residence Halls, supervising staff and managing processes for housing deposits, facility safety, security, and behavioral policies. The role may include living in SCC dormitories free of charge.

Benefits

Annual salary $40,000.00 with medical, dental, vision, $50,000 life insurance, long‑term disability, paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid spring and holiday breaks, and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plans.

Responsibilities General Responsibilities
  • Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy and related Iowa Code regulations.
  • Apply SCC policies and procedures, including strategic goals and accountability within the Vice President of Administrative Services Division.
  • Apply ethical standards; promote a harassment‑free environment.
  • Support constructive change and improve college operations efficiently.
  • Build effective relationships with students, colleagues inside and outside the department, and the public.
  • Assist Student Services functions as directed by the Vice President of Administrative Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Residence Life Responsibilities
  • Provide information and service to students seeking on‑campus housing.
  • Collaborate with marketing and enrollment services to distribute promotional materials for prospective housing students.
  • Assign rooms for new and returning residents and communicate assignments promptly.
  • Provide tours of residential facilities to prospective students.
  • Maintain the residence life website.
  • Coordinate paperwork related to residential facilities (reservation forms and contracts, check‑in/out forms, disciplinary reports, etc.).
  • Work with the food service vendor on accounts and services for residents.
  • Enter charges for housing, meal plans, and residence life disciplinary fines.
  • Assist the Business Office with follow‑up of resident student accounts.
  • Monitor and enforce residence hall policies and procedures.
  • Schedule cleanings and maintenance with the Maintenance Department.
  • Coordinate with security staff to ensure safety for all residents.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate community advisors and resident hall assistants.
  • Coordinate resident programs and activities for social, physical, and intellectual development.
  • Maintain inventory of furniture and equipment.
  • Maintain records and reports on occupancy, inventory, disciplinary actions, and other assigned data.
  • Perform administrative work Monday–Friday; be on call for emergencies. Weekend duties shared with West Burlington Resident Advisors.
  • Act as liaison among Residence Life, Athletics, and College Dining Services.
  • Establish Residence Hall Council and work with it to provide a positive living experience.
  • Coordinate housing for non‑student residents.
  • Collect and distribute personal residence hall items left behind for future use.
  • Issue dorm room keys to students and resident life assistants.
  • Communicate with residents via SCC communication tools, Whats App, etc.
  • Coordinate meals for resident life assistants during breaks and summer.
  • Manage purchases and ordering.
Qualifications Education
  • Associate’s Degree required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience
  • Preferred supervision of college housing or community living setting.
  • Experience in student services, student activities, or athletics within a community college.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, planning, fundraising, and public relations skills.
  • Excellent human relations, oral and written communication skills.
  • Self‑starter with a competitive spirit.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and SCC’s administrative software (Ellucian).
Skills & Abilities
  • Work effectively with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Handle confidential matters with discretion and integrity.
  • Understand NJCAA, ICCAC, SCC policies, Title IX, Clery Act, ADA, FERPA, and other regulations.
  • Act as a Title IX team member.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
