Job Overview
Scotts Miracle‑Gro is seeking a Mechanic to work in our Ft. Madison, IA facility. The position offers a pay rate of approximately $33.85 to $45.90 per hour, paid weekly, and includes a $2,000 sign‑on bonus. You must be able to work all three shifts.
Responsibilities- Perform detailed mechanical and instrumentation/electrical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on plant process, utility, and packaging equipment.
- Execute multi‑discipline maintenance and electrical work, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and facility equipment troubleshooting.
- Maintain equipment documentation and update records for all equipment modifications.
- Program, repair, and maintain programmable logic controller (PLC) systems used in an industrial high‑speed packaging plant.
- Carry out preventive maintenance on motors, conveyor systems, packaging equipment, and the installation of new equipment.
- Ensure a safe and clean work environment by complying with all procedures, rules, and regulations, including lockout/tag‑out protocols.
- Install and service safety, security, energy delivery (hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical), communication, and process control systems.
- Install and terminate electrical, pneumatic, and fluid connections; work on network and signal transmission systems such as fiber optic and wireless.
- Assist engineering in plant design, modification, and hazard analysis; collaborate with operators to optimize plant controls.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 to 7 years of electrical maintenance experience, preferably in manufacturing.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude; ability to read and interpret schematics.
- Experience working with voltages up to 480‑volt 3‑phase systems and using ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Proficiency in maintaining backup documentation and software revisions for computer‑based control systems.
- Ability to consult technical documentation, drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Demonstrated safety‑first attitude, compliance with all local, state, federal regulations and company policies.
- Strong teamwork skills, adaptability, and flexibility to accommodate changing priorities.
