Summary

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing internal combustion engines and components in both stationary and mobile equipment.

Job Duties
  • Ensure repairs are carried out according to the manufacturer’s procedures in a safe and responsible manner within the designated timeframe
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Keep equipment clean, lubricated, and maintained
  • Diagnose faults and malfunctions
  • Troubleshoot and communicate equipment performance with mechanics
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers specifications and legislated regulations
  • Write service reports in a timely and efficient manner
  • Train and/or assist other technicians or apprentices
  • Other duties as required by management
  • May perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must be an Alberta ticketed journeyman (or hold a journeyman certificate recognized by AIT)
  • Previous experience working on an industrial site is considered an asset, but not required
  • CSTS-09 and/or CSO
  • Must have experience with CAT pipelayers
  • 5+ years’ experience with Caterpillar equipment
  • Familiarity with pipeline equipment is an asset
  • Able to think logically, problem solve, and keep up with changing technology
  • Familiar with parts and service manuals
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Must be physically able to lift 50lbs and climb in/under units in the field
  • Organized and self‑motivated
