Finning is growing fast—and so are the opportunities! We’re hiring Apprentice Field Mechanics to support our customers in the Wood Buffalo Region. If you are a current 3rd or 4th year apprentice and have large CAT mining and construction equipment service experience, this job is for you.

Job Description
  • Troubleshoot and repair Caterpillar equipment
  • Assist with a variety of field repairs and diagnostics as required
  • Utilize Caterpillar SIS and ET daily
  • Complete technical documentation (service reports, warranty, crossover notes)
  • Interact with customers, sales support, and the rest of the Finning team
  • Work with the Service Supervisor and Leadhand on various tasks as required
Qualifications
  • Must be a current 3rd or 4th year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice
  • Willing to work towards Heavy Equipment Technician Certification
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a successful recent drivers abstract
  • Successfully meet Finning’s educational and testing prerequisites. This includes: completion of grade 12 (not including a general equivalent diploma)
  • Meet the requirements of article 5.02 of the Alberta Collective Agreement
  • Highly motivated and safety focused
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Previous Caterpillar experience and basic computer skills
  • Mechanical aptitude with a basic understanding of heavy equipment parts and repairs.

Note:

This position is located out of the Fort McMurray Town Shop facility on a 7x7 continuous shift rotation Role will require access to various customer sites around the Wood Buffalo region, a condition of employment is the ability to obtain customer site access (drug & alcohol, fitness testing, wear a respirator where applicable) and will be required to successfully complete necessary training and other activities based on customer requirements You are required to become a member of the Union associated with this position.

This will be effective immediately and will result in union dues being deducted Candidate selection will be in compliance with the terms of the current collective agreement Any future shift changes that may occur will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement
